State Work Group Focused on Health Coverage
A report to the governor by a state-appointed group is expected to recommend that Pennsylvania make a priority of ensuring access to adequate and affordable health care coverage for direct-care workers.
The Direct Care Workforce Workgroup, a group including providers, labor representatives, consumers, and other advocates, was appointed in 2005 by the Governor’s Office of Health Care Reform. The group was charged with looking into ways of strengthening Pennsylvania’s direct-care workforce and the quality of service received by long-term care consumers. In its final report, which is due out in 2007, the group is expected to recommend health insurance access for direct-care workers as one of the main areas for the state to focus on.
