Health Care for Health Care Workers is an initiative of PHI, a national nonprofit working to improve long-term care—by improving the jobs of those that provide that care.

The Health Care for Health Care Workers campaign works to achieve health insurance coverage for direct-care workers—and raise awareness of their need for coverage within the broader movement for expanded coverage. To fulfill this goal, we pursue three broad interlocking strategies:

• Raising public awareness of the workforce’s need for health insurance coverage, through multi-pronged communication strategies.

• Building multi-stakeholder alliances and strategic partnerships to advance our goals—spotlighting the direct-care workforce within the broader movement for adequate, secure, and affordable insurance.

• Providing technical assistance to state officials and long-term care advocates, developing a menu of public policy strategies that they can use to help ensure health coverage for these workers.

Health Care for Health Care Workers is currently running state campaigns in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Maine, Michigan and New York and offering technical assistance to organizations in Vermont, Montana, New Hampshire.
