Caring for America’s Greatest Generation

Direct care worker with elderThe Greatest Generation is a term used to describe the generation of Americans who fought in World War II or kept the home front intact during it. They are in their eighties now and many need the help of direct care workers to live with the dignity, respect, and independence they deserve.

Yet low pay, insufficient training and support, and lack of health coverage mean that many direct care workers are leaving the work they love for less meaningful jobs offering better pay and benefits.

Direct care workers are twice as likely to be uninsured as the average American and nursing homes lose up to 70% of their workers to turnover each year.

To ensure quality care for our elders, we must provide our caregivers with quality jobs — jobs that include affordable health coverage.
